World Wish Day - Celebrating the Anniversary of the First WISH
On April 29, Chi Omega participated in World Wish Day! This is a worldwide celebration on the anniversary of the Wish that inspired the founding of Make-A-Wish. Over 40 years ago, 7-year old Christopher was battling leukemia. He wished to become a police officer. In 1980, his community came together in Phoenix, Arizona to help make his wish come true. Christopher’s Wish created a movement that would transform millions of lives.
In 2002, Chi Omega established a nationwide alliance with Make-A-Wish, and we are forever thankful for this partnership.
We get to see where the money we raise goes and how each Wish creates strength, hope, and transformation in a child’s life. We’ve gotten to hear from families how their child’s Wish gave them hope through dark times, the strength to persevere, and experiences that forever change their lives. For children diagnosed with critical illnesses, a Wish come true can be a crucial turning point in their lives.
A Wish can be that spark that helps these children believe that anything is possible!
It gives them the strength to fight harder against their illnesses. This impact is why we are driven to make every one of these wishes come true! So, on World Wish Day, As a sorority and community, our goal was to fundraise $1,111 in 24-hours to help create magical moments beyond 11:11. Through social media and word-of-mouth, we nearly tripled that goal!
Our Make-A-Wish fundraising done through both our Mom’s Day Auction (read about Mom’s Day HERE) and World Wish Day 24-hour campaign culminated in over $7,000 of donations for Make-A-Wish. Thank you to all donors: because of you, our fundraising totals in the past week will create lifelong memories for children battling critical illnesses.
We also want to thank AlphaLit Iowa Marquee Letters and Poppin’ Parties Co for their generosity in contributing towards the beautiful Make-A-Wish display for World Wish Day.
