2018: A Recap of our Year

2018 was a year to remember. Each year we set our goals high, and each year we look back on all the amazing things we have experienced together. We excelled in our academics, gave back to our community, and enjoyed each and every moment of being a Chi Omega in 2018. Take a look at some our favorite accomplishments from last year.

January

In January, we initiated 58 new members into our sisterhood. Initiation is a special time for our chapter because it reminds everyone of why we chose to join Chi Omega.

“Chi Omega has shown me how you can make so many opportunities for yourself, through not only school work but through my community as well. I have never worked as hard, studied as hard, or had as much fun in my whole life as I have this past Year, and it’s all thanks to Chi O! This sisterhood has already helped me grow as a person and I can’t wait to experience the rest of college with my kind spirited, light hearted, beautiful sisters. I am honored to be a Chi Omega.” - Rory Laubengayer

February

Dance Marathon 24 was a record breaking year for Dance Marathon, but also for Chi Omega. We danced for 24 hours without sitting or any caffeine to celebrated an incredible year with the rest of Dance Marathon. As a chapter, Chi Omega raised over $100,000 FTK and won the Mary Petersen Award, which is awarded to the highest Greek fundraising chapter on campus. Overall, Dance Marathon 24 raised over $3,000,000 FTK!

March

Spring Break was a great way for Chi Omega to relax for a week after putting in lots of hard work throughout the semester. Some sisters went south to escape the Iowa weather, but one sister, Bella, decided to spend her week serving others in Mississippi. You can read more about it here!!

Chi Omega welcomed our moms to Iowa City for a weekend to celebrate everything they’ve done for us! We shared a meal while listening to Intersection, an a capella group on campus. In addition, we had a silent auction with all profits going to Make-A-Wish! In addition to Mom’s Day, Greek life also held the first ever FSL Weekend, or Fraternity Sorority Life Weekend. There was a handful of events throughout the few days including Greek Olympics and Follies. We were paired with Phi Gamma Delta and Pi Alpha Phi and after all our hard work, we came out as champions! To top this month off, we won Chapter of the Year!

May

We watched our seniors walk across the stage at graduation to receive their diplomas! We are so proud of their accomplishments and contributions to Chi Omega. Class of 2018, we love you and we are forever grateful for the mark you left on this chapter!

August

August brings many beginnings for Chi Omega. Our newest members moved into the 804. Additionally, recruitment started and we were able to meet a thousand potential new members over two weekends. Recruitment may be tiring, but it’s truly once in a lifetime experience. It’s all worth it in the end when our new members run home to us on Bid Day!

September

We welcomed home 55 new members to the 804!! Our new member educator, Kate Vittore, did an incredible job at organizing a dream-filled Bid Day for our hooties. The theme was “Bringing Home Star Girls Since 1895”, and we kept that tradition alive. PC 18’, you are a dream come true and we love you so much! We are so excited to see you leave your impact on our sisterhood in the years to come.

Chi Omega paired with Gamma Rho Lambda for Homecoming week and brought home a victory! We won Canstruction where members from Chi Omega and Gamma Rho Lambda came together to build a tower out of donated canned goods. We also dominated in Dodge Ball during Ruckus at the Rec & Iowa Shout, and proved to be worthy competitors in the float competition, Cornhole tournament, and the annual blood drive! Along with all the festivities, our very own Katie Cabel was nominated for Homecoming Court.
