Iowa Homecoming Week and Court 2021

During the week of October 11, we celebrated 175 years of Hawkeye Homecomings here in Iowa City. From celebrating our two senior members elected to Homecoming Court, to walking in the Homecoming parade and finishing off the week with a fun game day in Kinnick Stadium, we were reminded of how much we love our Chi Omega sisters and life as Iowa Hawkeyes.

Since 2010, ten Chi Omegas have been elected to Homecoming Court, including Allison Bries (‘13), Kaylee Huber (‘15), Ally Orwig (‘16), Katie Cable (‘18), Madeline Huntley (‘21), and Callie Thomas (‘21). Of those ten, four have been elected Homecoming Queen: Erica Hayes (‘10), Lily Allen-Dueñas (‘12), Elizabeth Mills (‘15), and Kimmi Chex (‘17).

Homecoming Court members represent a variety of students across Iowa’s campus. This year, our senior members Madeline Huntley and Callie Thomas both participated in Homecoming traditions as court members - they even took the field during half-time of the Iowa vs. Purdue game!

“Being on the University of Iowa’s Homecoming Court this year was an honor. I loved attending all the events and learning more about Iowa’s traditions and history. Even though I am just one person, I was proud to represent all the student organizations I am involved in and my friends and peers who have supported me throughout college.” - Madeline Huntley, PC’18

“I couldn’t have asked for a better, final, Homecoming weekend. To be one of the 12 absolutely incredible individuals representing our university was truly an honor, and I just feel so blessed to be a part of the Hawkeye community. From the parade, to planting a tree, to walking onto the field during the football game, everything that I was a part of just felt too good to be true. I’m so happy and thankful that everything I’ve been a part of led to me being a part of this amazing tradition. I will never forget this.” - Callie Thomas, PC’18

On Thursday, we cheered on Kennedy Hannan (PC’18) and Chloe Crandell (PC’21) and the Iowa Spirit Squads as they performed at Iowa Shout! prior to the crowning of Homecoming royalty.

On Friday, we cheered on members of Chi Omega who participated in the Iowa Homecoming parade, including current Miss Iowa, Grace Keller (PC'18)!

Emma Mcllhon (PC’18), walked in the parade as a representative for Best Buddies, an organization at Iowa that pairs people with intellectual disabilities and college students to create friendships.

On Saturday, we cheered on the Iowa Hawkeyes from the stands and field as the Hawkes took on the Purdue Boilermakers. Mary Merschman (PC’19), reported on the game for DITV.

“Being able to have the opportunity to be a sports reporter for such an amazing school and team is such a blessing in my life.” - Mary Merschman

Even though the game did not have the outcome we hoped for, we loved celebrating our favorite school and our sisters, past and present, throughout the week. Once a Hawkeye, always a Hawkeye!
